Last week was a particularly unusual smorgasbord of creativity. Sometimes I can’t believe this is my life and job, and I get paid for this stuff (mostly).
The week started with a mini crochet project. I’ve taken up crochet over the last 6 months or so, and I’m absolutely loving it. I’ve made squares, hearts, stars, bracelets, baskets, easter eggs, and a mini cactus. On Sunday while I was ignoring the super bowl, I decided to crochet all my scraps into cords to use for gift wrapping.
I also had a request from a friend to tie dye some beach towels for her daughters. You don’t have to ask me twice! She sent me the towels and a did a small batch of ice dye.
The bulk of my week was taken up prepping for and styling an ad campaign that required all kinds of fake ice cream, popsicles, and sorbets.
People ask me all the time if the food I style is fake and 95% of the time the answer is NO, but this time was the exception. Fake cold products always work best for campaigns where they are not the star. It gives the styling and photo teams time to compose the imagery without worrying about the mess of melting sugar products.
I’ll be sure to share the campaign as soon as I am able. Here are some behind the scenes photos.
On Friday, after a long week of work, I launched my second collection of paintings on my fine art website betsyhaleyart.com I worked on this group the second part of last year. It is very experimental, and I feel like it was the perfect stepping stone to the work I’m doing currently.
I’d love if you would go take a look!

To cap off this rainy week, I took my creativity to the kitchen and made a slow braised short rib ragu which I served over sweet potato gnocchi and topped with parmesan.
I still love cooking and creating in the kitchen.
Looking ahead, I’m neck deep in another painting collection as well as Easter prep. Staying a season ahead is my natural state of being these days.
I’ve also got a greenhouse full of seedlings and more on the way. There will be lots of gardening content on the horizon.
Oh yeah, the towels turned out so great, and the crochet cord made the perfect ribbon!
Not all weeks are this RANDOM, but I do very much enjoy the variety I have in my life. I hope you enjoyed my recap.
